beads: mardi gras & otherwise

i ordered a book off of amazon a few weeks ago with montessori style learning activities for young kids. that's where i got the bright idea for beads.
we had fun the first few times we played with them - stringing the little plastic jewels onto yarn. we even added our own idea - sorting the beads into color groups with a mini-muffin tin. then today i think hudson got a little too comfortable with the beads project & it went a little something like this...

here's a close up view before he actually stepped on the tray & sent beads flying further...

*blurriness caused by photographer fielding off little boy determined to make a huge mess!!

in earlier "bead play" sessions, he has loved stringing the little beads, one @ a time & sorting the colors, one @ a time, but i fear now that he knows what it feels like to fill that sweet little chubby hand with beads & throw them out all over the floor, it's over! i wonder what maria montessori would say...

on the mardi gras front, we got beads from our little mardi gras celebration @ the library. hudson & caleb were not really thrilled with the idea of making a jester hat, & parading through the library to get beads, but then again, they're not really thrilled with the whole reading books thing @ library time either! they usually enjoy the coloring & sitting in the red plastic chairs (seriously, they would fight anyone for them!) & so that's why we take them. right, ruth? that's why we take them, right?? don't you dare quit on me!!!!!!

Did you hear Caleb throughout the last 2 books yelling "Mommy!" over and over and over...it's like, just listen to the stories, they take 2 minutes!!!!

I think he did like the parade though:).

i am so impressed that hudson is able to do small beads and thread them. jayden got for christmas some large beads to thread and he enjoys doing that, but the small beads would probably be really hard. (he is so advanced :)) also - we go to a storytime at pbk once a week - i am not sure if it is getting to play with the toys afterwards or sitting in the different chairs that he likes best - it is not the reading :) oh well! at least we are trying! lastly - did you get the book "mommy teach me" i have that one which has montessori activities in it. i really like it and think they are getting to the age where they can really do that type of thing.
