"blessed is the man

who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

or stand in the way of sinners

or sit in the seat of mockers.

but his delight is in the law of the lord,

and on his law he meditates day & night.

he is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither.

whatever he does prospers."

ancient hebrew words translated to english & found in psalm 1.

i've really enjoyed a book i borrowed from a friend a few months ago (j - i really need to get this back to you!) called "celtic daily prayers" from the northumbria community in northern england. i've GOT to order it from amazon, so i can get it back to it's owner!!! it's a liturgical type book, which is refreshing & different for me since i didn't grow up with much formality in our church setting. there's a morning, noontime, & nightly prayer that you basically end up memorizing (not that i've done that yet!) & then you have set bible readings (ot, psalms, & nt) & a devo-type part for each day of the year. you also have a reading/meditation for each day of the month.

it provides a nice rhythm, & i find it so helpful when i know/want to connect with the real purpose of life, with God, but can't seem to get there. do you feel me??!

i'd love to end up doing the morning, noontime, & nightly prayer, but right now we do the morning one sometime through out the day - usually @ lunch. i give hudson some finger foods & then read everything out loud to him. i didn't think he even noticed until i started making hand motions to one of the prayers & he started mimicing me! so cute :) also, he randomly started saying "amen" a lot, so i think he picked that up, too.

anyway, wanted to share it with you guys. like i said, i find it such a nice way to connect in a real way with God & the truth of life & i love that i can do it with hudson awake b/c let's face it - mama just can't get up any earlier!!! and i decided i'm not feeling bad about that anymore - i need my beauty rest!!! haha!
***oh, & today i recommend "sufjan stevens (holiday)" for your pandora listenings :)

One of my favorite books! I do not own it, but a friend of mine does and I always LOVE hearing her read from it - she has a beautiful reading voice and often reads at church. Anyway - love it!

you should also get "valley of vision: a collection of puritan prayers and devotions" by arthur bennett- it sounds similar in style. :)
